A critically well-received PC action-adventure game ported to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. No internal console experience at the studio. Nine Pixels delivered the port in 12 weeks and passed both Sony and Microsoft certification on the first submission.
Beyond the technical port, the PC codebase had console-incompatible assumptions: PC graphics settings, keyboard references in UI strings, PC file I/O, no gamepad menu navigation. Console certification requirements number in the hundreds. Missing one causes multi-week rejection delays.
Full codebase audit produced a 47-item remediation list tackled priority-first, cert blockers before visual improvements. Input rebuilt with Unity Input System and full gamepad abstraction. UI strings audited. File I/O replaced with platform APIs. Three performance bottlenecks identified via profiling (shadow cascades, particle instancing, crowd AI) resolved within budget. Target: 60fps on Xbox Series S.
