What Is Fixed Price?

A Scope. A Price. A Commitment.

Fixed price is the simplest engagement model, you define what you want built, we define what it will cost and when it will be delivered, and both parties sign off before a line of code is written. The price is fixed. The timeline is fixed. The scope is fixed.

It works best when the deliverable is well-defined upfront. The more thoroughly you can describe what “done” looks like, the more accurately we can quote, and the smoother the delivery.

📋
Well-defined projects

You have a GDD, an asset list, or a feature spec that describes the deliverable clearly enough to quote against.

💰
Budget-capped engagements

You have a fixed budget and need certainty that the project won’t exceed it, regardless of what comes up during development.

🔄
Game ports

Porting an existing game to a new platform is a well-scoped deliverable with known technical requirements, ideal for fixed price.

🎨
Art production batches

A list of assets, an art style, and a delivery date. Fixed price art production runs cleanly when the brief is clear.

What It Includes

Everything Covered Upfront

A fixed price project isn’t just a quote, it’s a complete delivery package.

🔍
Discovery & Spec

We spend time understanding your requirements before quoting. The spec we agree becomes the contract, so both sides know exactly what’s being built.

📋
Milestone Payments

Payments tied to delivery milestones, not time. You only pay for work that’s been completed and reviewed, reducing financial risk throughout the project.

🧪
QA Included

Every fixed price project includes QA as part of the scope. The build is tested before delivery, not handed over and left for you to find the bugs.

🚀
Delivery & Handover

Clean code delivery, documentation, and a structured handover. IP transfers to you on final payment, fully documented.

🔄
Change Order Process

Scope changes happen. When they do, we assess and quote them transparently before any out-of-scope work begins. No silent scope creep invoiced at the end.

Post-Delivery Support

30 days of bug-fix support after delivery for issues covered by the original spec. Beyond that, we offer post-launch support retainers.

How It Works

How Fixed Price Works

A structured delivery process from brief to handover.

📝 1
Brief & Discovery

You share your requirements. We ask questions, review existing assets or code, and define what “done” looks like in concrete terms.

📋 2
Spec & Quote

We document the full scope and produce a fixed price quote with milestone payment schedule. Both sides sign off before work begins.

⚙️ 3
Development

Agile sprints with milestone reviews. You see progress at every checkpoint and can review before the next phase begins.

🧪 4
QA & Delivery

Full QA pass, issue resolution, and structured delivery. Code, assets, and documentation handed over cleanly.

🚀 5
Handover & Support

IP transferred on final payment. 30-day bug fix period included. Ongoing support available via retainer.

Why Nine Pixels

Why Fixed Price Works With Nine Pixels

We’ve delivered over 80 fixed price game projects. Here’s how we make it work.

📋
Thorough Discovery

We don’t quote from a paragraph. We invest time in discovery, asking detailed questions, reviewing existing work, and defining the spec collaboratively before we price it. That’s how our quotes stay accurate.

💰
No Hidden Costs

Our quotes are line-item transparent. You see exactly what you’re paying for, which phases cost what, and what’s included in QA and handover. No surprises.

🔄
Change Order Clarity

We handle scope changes with a clear process, documented, quoted, and signed off before any additional work begins. We never absorb scope creep silently.

Milestone Accountability

Every milestone is a real checkpoint, working software or assets you can review, not just a project management status update. You approve before we proceed to the next phase.

FAQ

Fixed Price FAQs

Common questions about fixed price game development.

How accurate are your fixed price quotes?+
Very, for well-scoped projects. Our quotes are based on a detailed discovery process and are structured around the specific deliverables you’ve defined. We have a strong track record of delivering fixed price projects within quoted budget. For projects with ambiguous requirements we recommend a paid discovery phase first.
What happens if the project takes longer than estimated?+
If the delay is caused by something within our control, we absorb the additional time at no cost to you: the price is fixed. If it’s caused by scope changes or delays on your side (late feedback, asset delivery, etc.), we discuss impact openly and agree a resolution. We don’t penalise you for reasonable delays.
Can we add features mid-project?+
Yes, through a change order process. We assess the requested addition, quote it, and get your sign-off before doing any out-of-scope work. Some additions can be absorbed into the existing timeline; others add to it. We’re transparent about the impact upfront.
How are milestone payments structured?+
Typically 30% on contract signing, 40% at mid-project review, and 30% on delivery. For larger projects we use more granular milestone payments tied to specific deliverables. The exact structure is agreed in the contract before work begins.
What’s the minimum project size?+
Our minimum fixed price engagement is £8,000. Below that threshold, the discovery and contract overhead makes the model inefficient. For smaller, well-defined tasks, a short staff augmentation engagement with a senior developer is usually faster and more cost-effective.
Is discovery included in the quote?+
For straightforward projects, yes, discovery is included in our quoting process and doesn’t add cost. For complex projects where substantial upfront research is needed (novel game mechanics, complex technical architecture, large scope), we recommend a paid discovery phase that produces a detailed spec. This de-risks the fixed price quote significantly for both sides.
